Arts and Culture
Cape Town’s creative heartbeat is close at hand from Sea Point. There are galleries in Green Point and at the V&A Waterfront, theatre at Artscape and The Baxter around 15 to 20 minutes away, and more intimate productions at The Theatre on the Bay in Camps Bay. In town, the Company’s Garden holds the Iziko South African Museum, the National Gallery and the Planetarium, and the Zeitz MOCAA sits carved into an old grain silo at the Waterfront. Robben Island, a South African National Heritage Site, is the ferry ride most visitors remember longest.
The Sea Point promenade runs past the front door, the V&A Waterfront and the Table Mountain Cableway are both around 3km away, and Clifton, Camps Bay, Kirstenbosch, Cape Point and the Winelands are all within a comfortable drive.
The hotel runs a complimentary shuttle within an 8km radius, which reaches the V&A Waterfront, the City Bowl and much of the Atlantic Seaboard. The My City bus service stops close by, and the concierge books tours and car hire.
Yes. The concierge and travel desk at The Peninsula books tours and travel experiences, and the guest relations desk beside reception handles car hire and flight confirmations. The guest relations desk runs 07h00 to 18h00 on weekdays and 07h00 to 15h00 on Saturdays.
Ferries to Robben Island leave from the V&A Waterfront, which is a short shuttle ride from the hotel. Tours are led by former prison warders and include the cell where Nelson Mandela was held, along with a bus tour of the island.
It is the reason many people choose Sea Point. The promenade runs along the Atlantic directly opposite the hotel and fills up daily with locals walking, jogging and cycling. There are outdoor fitness areas along it and no shortage of ice cream.
A golf course sits about 3km from the hotel. Further afield the Cape has Steenberg in the Constantia Valley, Atlantic Beach on the West Coast, Royal Cape, Metropolitan and Milnerton. The concierge can arrange tee times and transport.
