Your Journey Could Include

BEFORE YOU ARRIVE

Your Personalised Digital Pre-Arrival Pack

It is the million small things that make this a journey you will not forget, and they begin long before the bags are packed. Tell us what you would like ahead of time and we will shape a stay that feels like yours.

ON ARRIVAL

What to Expect

On reaching the jetty by private ferry, you are welcomed through rituals that honour the land and its people. Handmade keepsakes share the stories of local creators while intention stones invite you to pause, breathe and arrive fully in the moment. While enjoying a refreshing cold-pressed juice, your host will introduce what to expect during your stay.

Starting Your Day

Begin with freshly brewed coffee or chai served with rusks. Breakfast may take the form of a bush breakfast, a relaxed lake brunch or tea and warm baked treats on the deck. Your morning then unfolds with a guided experience in the forest, on the
water or within the surrounding community.

Lakeside boma feasts

Evenings open with the call of the kudu horn and a hand-washing ritual using a bowl and calabash, a cleansing before the meal. Dinner celebrates local, seasonal ingredients, and on alternate nights the boma comes alive with Zulu song, rhythm and storytelling beneath the stars.

Turndown And Farewell

Each evening ends with a thoughtful turndown and a Zulu proverb.. On departure, a farewell bracelet is tied with the whispered blessing, “Return always.” You may also choose to plant a tree or receive the GPS coordinates of a tree planted in your honour, creating a lasting connection with the land.

Untravelled Trails

Walk Softly Through a Land Untouched by Time

Opening

On the eastern shores of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park lies Untravelled Trails, a specialist eco-tourism partner and concessionaire working in low-impact exploration and environmental education. It offers a rare chance to walk Zululand as it was before roads, fences or crowds, an elemental encounter that restores the walker while supporting conservation and local livelihoods directly.

Slackpacking expeditions

The philosophy is simple: you walk, we carry. Guests set off with a small backpack of personal items and a sleeping bag, moving lightly across the pristine Tewate Wilderness Area. Armed professional guides read the geology, the plant life and the layered history of the landscape along the way, and the pace leaves time to take the terrain in. The route enters ancient forest and follows game paths to a simple pop-up tented trails camp set beneath a cathedral canopy, where warm open-air showers, fireside meals and the noise of nocturnal life are waiting.

WILDERNESS FACT

The Sand Forest Biome

The Sand Forest is a rare and fragile subtype of tropical dry forest. It grows on the remnants of ancient sand dunes formed millions of years ago when the ocean receded eastwards towards its present coastline.

Smaller and more distinctive than many other forest ecosystems, Sand Forest supports a specialised collection of plants and wildlife. Only an estimated 3 540 hectares of Sand Forest remain and approximately 44% is formally protected. The habitat is therefore classified as critically endangered. Past cattle farming and the unchecked spread of invasive plant species have degraded large areas, making active restoration and continued protection essential.

Because the remaining forests are fragmented, each patch may hold unique biodiversity and genetic characteristics. Protecting only one area would not preserve the full ecological richness of the biome. Safeguarding as many remaining Sand Forest patches as possible is vital to the future of this extraordinary ecosystem and the species that depend on it.
